Watched – Howl’s Moving Castle

On Saturday Tim and I went to see Howl’s Moving Castle in the theater. I found it was playing in one of those theaters that carries movies that just moved out of most theaters. Now Howl’s did not have a huge release, so I was quite surprised to find it playing there.

Howl’s Moving Castle is Hayao Miyazaki’s newest film. He is the director of Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro, and many more.

We both loved this film, it has a great story with wonderful and fun characters. The animation is great, and a nice change from all the 3D stuff America if pumping out these days. If you have enjoyed any of Miyazaki’s previous work, you will love Howl’s Moving Castle.

Plot outline from IMDB:

When an unconfident young woman is cursed with an old body by a spiteful witch, her only chance of breaking the spell lies with a self-indulgent yet insecure young wizard and his companions in his legged, walking home

Save me veggies!

I went and saw Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-rabbit last night, since I found out I did not have to work. Its a great movie! Classic Wallace and Gromit fun. Its hilarious too. The animation is stunning. I had to see it before it was no longer in theaters, and I think this was the last week it was going to be in Portage.

Watched: War of the Worlds (2005)

Ok, so I said I saw War of the Worlds yesterday.

I thought it was an amazing movie my self. Very scary and quite disturbing at points too. Some panned it due to its ending, and I can see where they are coming from on 2 points there. But I think it’s still a very solid representation of the original as I know it. Tom Cruise was good in it. So was Dakota Fanning, though she is great in anything she does.

Many of the effects were amazing. And the camera work was crazy-cool in some places, notably the highway scene.

I’m personally a little pissed at the people who say Speilberg intentionally tried to remind you of 9/11 or the holocaust. If you see that in the movie, its because thats what you get from it. Thats what it reminds you of. Not necessarily what the director is intending, let alone supposedly exploiting it.

You could look at ID4 and say it has 9/11 imagery. If it had come after 9/11. But that was obviously not intended since the movie came first.

Watched: Batman Begins

I also saw Batman Begins recently. I thought it was a pretty good movie. Definetly better than Batman and Robin. :bleh: The Batmobile is real cool, and the way scarecrow was done was sweet too. Now I gotta find some money to see War of the Worlds…

Rewatched: Fight Club

I just watched Fight Club for the first time in a long time last right. Man I love that movie. Its great the second time through too, cuz your watching all the interaction closer. One cool thing to note about the Fight Club DVD… It is a special edition, and one of the first to prove it by discontinuing this version, and releasing a 1 disc version only from then on. Currently, if you go to the store to buy Fight Club on DVD you will get a 1 disc standard edition DVD… Just thought that was cool.
